I decided to experiment with having a background made entirely of colour. As I wanted to still keep the expressive nature of the volcanoes I decided to experiment using salt with ink and also watercolour. The created some interesting bleeding effects, with the different colours seeping into each other, almost like an explosion.
I actually am quite pleased with the outcome of having a background with lines drawn back over the top. Having just lines and no particular whole shapes works well instead of having an outline. Definitely something to experiment with further.
